Message from Chair, Board of Trustees

This Foundation was established on March 1, 1994 with endowment from San-Ei Gen F.F.I., Inc. and its related individuals. The Foundation, which was approved by the Minister for Health and Welfare, aims to contribute to the maintenance and promotion of the public health by providing assistance for research related to food chemistry and thereby ensuring food safety. On April 1, 2011, it transitioned into a public interest incorporated foundation by having received certification from the Prime Minister in accordance with the new legislation.

In the midst of the rapid globalization of the food industry, we believe that one of the major challenges facing the food industry of Japan is to promote research activities and technology development in food chemistry from an international and long-term perspective.

Particularly, in view of global and contemporary interest surrounding food, namely technological advances represented by food technology, as well as the efforts to meet SDGs goals such as achieving food security, reducing food waste, and minimizing adverse impacts on environment, it is crucial to enhance our understanding in the field of food chemistry, including food additives, pesticide residues, containers and packaging.

In light of these considerations, the Foundation will be supporting research and related academic activities on food additives, pesticide residues and other food chemistry-related matters. This initiative will not only expand the potential of food by ensuring food safety and the development of new technologies but will also contribute to people's rich and healthy diets. Furthermore, the Foundation is committed to the creation of a new food culture for the next generation.
We would greatly appreciate your continued support and cooperation.
