Providing Broad-based Support to the Development of Food Chemistry

The Japan Food Chemical Research Foundation was established to contribute to the safety of food and the maintenance and enhancement of the health of people through various activities. The Foundation supports research activities aimed at developing safety evaluation methodologies for food additives, and at reducing the use of food additives.
The main operations of the Foundation include the four activities listed below.
All projects of the Foundation are conducted with the approval of the Board of Directors and the Council. In providing grants, the Foundation openly invites the submission of themes for research projects. The prospective projects are screened by the Selection Committee consisting of experts, before receiving the approval of the Board of Directors and the Council.

1. Support for research on safety evaluation methodologies for food additives

Providing grants for research on testing methods for the safety evaluation of food additives and analytical methods used to test for impurities in food additives.

2. Support for research on the development and improvement of food manufacturing technologies to contribute to the reduced use of food additives

Providing grants for research on the improvement of refining technologies and methods for use of food additives, and of packaging methods and distribution systems for foodstuffs, with the goal of reducing the use of food additives.

3. Promotion of symposia and the like

Providing grants for the organization of symposia and other educational forums conducted on themes related to food additives and food chemistry.

4. Collection and disclosure of information

Gathering information on food additives and food chemistry from domestic and foreign sources and making it available to the public.
